Maternity Web Site Usability Ratings

The usability score reflects our evaluation of how easily and efficiently a site can be browsed and searched, and how easy it is to place an order. These are further broken down into 10 major areas. Each area is given a point value to determine the total possible points a site can earn for that area.

1. Site Design (10 points)
A good site design is non-intrusive or bandwidth intense. A good design also may go unnoticed because the user doesn't have to think about where to click and doesn't hunt around the site for links.

2. Site Navigation (10 points)
  • Are the links easy to read and easy to find?
  • Are the links intuitive or does it require a lot of thought on the user's part to find a link?
  • Is there a trail of links (breadcrumbs) so the user can tell exactly where they are within the site?
  • Are important links emphasized such as "Privacy Info" or "Contact Info"?
3. Contact Information (10 points)
The user needs to be able to find phone numbers, names, address information and any other means of contact necessary to communicate with your organization. Sites without easy to find contact information will not score well in this category.

4. Depth of Product Categories (10 points)
  • How many different categories of products do you offer within your industry?
  • How specific are those product categories?
  • Do you repeat product categories over and over in order to "appear" to have more product categories than you actually do?
5. Depth of Product Information (10 points)
How much detail to you provide on the descriptions of each product? A 5 word average description length will probably not score as well as a 200 word description. However, we understand that not all products need a 200 word description and will judge accordingly.

6. Product Line Knowledge (10 points)
Do the employees within your organization have an in depth knowledge of the products you sell or services you market? The more information given to the user about nuances of specific products/services will increase your ranking in this category.

7. Ease of Requesting a Quote (10 points)
  • Does your site have a request a quote form?
  • Does the form collect all of the pertinent information for each service you offer?
  • Is the form easy to find? If you don't use forms then is the contact information easy to find.
8. Ability to personalize the site (10 points)
  • Can a user customize their own experience?
  • Can a user add items to a "wish list" or registry?
  • Are there free tools for the user to use?
  • If your tools aren't free, are they easy to use and perform a specific task?
9. Unique Features of Website (10 points)
What characteristics of your website make it stand out from your competition? These may include site design, layout, specific services or products offered, expert knowledge or articles, etc...

10. Site Stickiness (10 points)
  • How often are your visitors compelled to come back based on their interest level or the specific products/features/services offered by your site?
  • How long does the average visitor stay on your site?
